After getting a Fitbit for Christmas, I’ve been tracking my steps, Caloric intake and burn, and other relevant health-related data. As a means to hold myself accountable, I intend to publish much of this data on my blog each month. (I also intend to publish my weight chart in future months, but I didn’t get a scale until January 20.)

My best stats: 10,433 steps on Monday, January 3; 2,591 Calories burned on Tuesday, January 11; 8.27 kilometers on Sunday, January 16; and 64 very active minutes on Monday, January 3.

the number of Calories I ate, along with the number of Calories I burned, each day in January - on average, I burned 2351 and ate 2316the number of steps I took each day in January - it varied quite a bit, from over ten thousand to under one thousandthe distance I walked each day in January - it varied quite a bit, ranging from just over eight kilometers down to less than onethe amount of time I was active each day during January - there are three lines (lightly active, fairly active, and very active), and they almost never cross; I was lightly active the most every day, from around one and a half hours to four and a half hours in a given daythe number of hours I slept (almost) every day in January - usually around seven, but some peaks up to ten and some troughs down to nine

This is a very cool product! So it contains a 3D motion sensor like the one in Wii or something like that?

  2. I’m not too clear on the technical details of what’s inside, but from what I understand, yes, that’s basically how it works. One of my favorite things about it is that it wirelessly syncs the data every fifteen minutes when I’m near the base station, so even though I only have to plug it in for a couple of hours a week to recharge the battery I can still see near-real-time charts online.
